American billionaire and financier Todd Boehly has secured the backing of the White House and influential figures from the Persian Gulf linked to the Trump family to participate in the bidding for the international assets of oil giant Lukoil, the Financial Times reports.
BNR’s
correspondent in London, Veselin Paunov, notes that Boehly, who sold
his stake in Chelsea last week, has been working on a potential deal
for months. His goal is to displace the US investment fund Carlyle,
which reached an agreement to acquire the assets in January.
Financial Times has previously reported that the deal to transfer
Lukoil’s foreign oil business to Carlyle had been blocked by US
authorities.
