Record number of candidates have registered for the presidential vote

A record number of 28 presidential candidate pairs are heading into the October 25 election. In the previous vote for head of state in 2021, there were 23. According to opinion polls, the main contenders are Iliana Iotova–Kiril Valchev and Andrey Gyurov–Georgi Kandev. "Vazrazhdane" party registered to participate on the final possible day, September 22, with candidates Kostadin Kostadinov and Petar Volgin. In the last presidential election in 2021, party leader Kostadinov and MP Elena Guncheva finished fourth, securing 104,832 votes, or 3.92% of the total. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), led by Delyan Peevski, registered for the election but did not nominate a candidate.
