Bulgaria calls on EU to align Danube Strategy with drought conditions

At the initiative of the Bulgarian Presidency, the EU Strategy for the Danube Region calls on the European Commission to take into account the specific challenges and vulnerabilities of the Danube region, such as low river levels and droughts, when developing EU policies and initiatives, the press office of the Ministry of Regional Development announced.

The statement highlights the river's strategic importance as a vital natural resource, a major European transport and economic corridor, and a connecting link for over 110 million European citizens across 14 countries. Fifteen years after its inception, the EU Strategy for the Danube Region unites nine EU Member States and five countries in the accession process, remaining a crucial tool for finding joint solutions to challenges that transcend national borders, the Ministry noted.
