President Iotova, Egypt’s Madbouly discuss direct Sofia-Cairo air link

President Iliana Iotova and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, the Bulgarian President’s press office said.

The two highlighted the strong political ties between their countries, while Madbouly pointed to Bulgaria’s role in relations between Egypt and the EU. Iotova raised the prospect of joint energy projects at a time when fuel supplies are at risk. She also noted that raw materials from Egypt support Bulgaria’s defence production.

Madbouly, for his part, invited Bulgarian businesses to invest in Egypt, Egypt Today reported.

President Iotova and Prime Minister Madbouly also discussed ways to boost tourism and stressed the need for a direct air link between Sofia and Cairo.

“Many Egyptian citizens have completed their higher education in Bulgaria, and they are a natural bridge between our two peoples,” Iotova said.
