Tangra band revives its legendary song “Insomnia” with new version

“Insomnia”, one of the songs forever associated with the distinctive voice and stage presence of Chochо Vladovski, is returning in a new version by the Bulgarian rock band Tangra, featuring the voice of Borislav Mudolov, known as Bobby Kosatkata. In this new rendition, the iconic Bulgarian song, with music by Boris Karadimchev and lyrics by Alexander Petrov, is being introduced to a new generation of listeners without losing any of the emotion and power of the original.

In their new interpretation, Bobby Kosatkata, Dani Ganchev, Ivo Chalakov, Stefan Popov and Valeri Grigorov-Rio preserve the spirit of the original while adding their own energy and musical signature. In recent years, the song has become a key part of Tangra’s live performances and has received an exceptionally strong response from audiences, which was one of the reasons the band decided to record it officially.

It was precisely “Insomnia” that brought Bobby together with Tangra. Kostyo Markov and Dani Ganchev heard him perform the song at a concert marking Alexander Petrov’s 60th anniversary at Bulgaria Hall in Sofia. Borislav Mudolov recalls:

“We first met at rehearsals. Mitko Karnev had recommended me because Sasha didn’t know me, and he was very worried about who would sing this song. It is his song, the one that appears on the first page of his poetry collection, so it is his favourite.”

Dani Ganchev adds:

“When Bobby sang the song, it suited him incredibly well, both vocally and visually. At one point I told my friend Kostyo Markov: ‘This is the man!’ Bobby is now part of the new Tangra line-up. And this song is one of the most important ones. We always play it right at the beginning of our concerts.”

And that will be the case at Tangra’s next concert, on October 1 at Kabana Cinema in Sofia, where “Insomnia” will once again be performed live.
