Patriarch Daniil visits Jerusalem, set to meet Jordan’s King Abdullah II

Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil is visiting Jerusalem and Jordan on a six-day trip that will include a joint liturgy with Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem and a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

Daniil, who is also Metropolitan of Sofia, is visiting the Patriarchate of Jerusalem from September 25 to 30 at the invitation of Theophilos III and following a decision by the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, the Bulgarian Patriarchate said.

The two patriarchs will jointly celebrate the Divine Liturgy on September 27. Daniil’s programme in Jerusalem also includes official meetings and visits to Christian holy sites.

He will then travel to Jordan for further meetings and visits to holy sites before meeting King Abdullah II.

The Bulgarian Orthodox Church said the visit was intended to affirm Orthodox unity and solidarity with Christians in the Holy Land, as well as a shared call for peace in the Middle East.
