Bulgaria takes part in two of five new EU defence projects

Bulgaria is taking part in two of the first five European defence projects of common interest approved by the Council of the EU, BNR's Brussels correspondent Angelina Piskova reported.

The country is among 28 participants in DECODER (DronE and Counter Drone European Resolve), alongside 26 other EU countries, Norway and Ukraine. It is also among 17 participants in IMSD (Integrated Maritime and Seabed Defence), again alongside Norway and Ukraine.

DECODER is valued at between €3.5 billion and €5 billion through 2033 and includes joint procurement of drone and counter-drone systems and the creation of a European network of drone technology centres.

Investment in IMSD is estimated at €43–72 billion. The project includes a common information-sharing system and joint procurement of naval platforms, underwater and unmanned systems, intelligence and surveillance equipment, and underwater warfare capabilities.
