An urgent programme to replace crash barriers has begun on roads across Bulgaria, Regional Development Minister Ivan Shishkov said. He made the announcement in Haskovo during the “Regions Speak” initiative.

Meanwhile, the Road Safety Institute said in an open letter to Prime Minister Rumen Radev that road safety policy had “completely broken down”. The NGO said there had been no improvement in road conditions during the five months Progressive Bulgaria has been in government.

It pointed to the deaths of 10 people on Bulgarian roads last weekend, describing the toll as a “national record for road fatalities”, BNR’s Horizont programme reported.
