Greece hands over the remains of Tsar Samuil and Tsar Gavril Radomir to Bulgaria

On Saturday morning, October 3, I will be at the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki, where, at a ceremony hosted by the Prime Minister of Greece, the remains of Tsar Samuil will be officially handed over to the Bulgarian state, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said.

He added that after being transported to Sofia aboard a Spartan aircraft, the tsar’s remains will be placed in a special sarcophagus at the St. Sofia Church, where, as a child, the future Tsar of Bulgaria attended church services. Radev invited Bulgarians to Battenberg Square at 12:30 on Saturday to welcome Tsar Samuil’s remains. “After that, we will accompany him in a procession to St. Sofia Church for his final journey”, Rumen Radev added.

Bulgaria will also receive the remains from two other sarcophagi discovered in the same church, belonging to Tsar Gavril Radomir and other members of the royal family.
