NSI: Greece and Türkiye remain top destinations for Bulgarians

Bulgarians made more than 1.1 million trips abroad in August 2026, up 3.5% from a year earlier, according to preliminary data from the National Statistical Institute. 

Greece and Türkiye were by far the most popular destinations, attracting 321,600 and 288,500 Bulgarian travellers respectively.

Romania ranked third with 78,900 trips, followed by Serbia (72,400) and Germany (67,300). Italy, France, Austria, North Macedonia and Spain completed the top ten.

Meanwhile, foreign visits to Bulgaria fell by 2.1% year on year to 2.22 million. Romania was the leading country of origin with 419,200 visits, followed by Türkiye (346,500), Germany (212,400) and Ukraine (174,600).

Business visits fell by 5.5% and holiday trips by 3.9%, while transit journeys accounted for nearly 38% of all foreign visits to Bulgaria.
