Former world chess champion Veselin Topalov will take on 30 opponents simultaneously on the Italian island of Capri on 3 October. The open-air chess exhibition will be held in Piazza Armando Diaz from 3.30 pm, Italian news agency ANSA reported, as quoted by 24 Chasa.
The event is organised by the Municipality of Capri and the local chess club, with participation by invitation only. In a simultaneous exhibition, a grandmaster plays multiple opponents on separate boards at the same time.
For Topalov, the event comes shortly after his 16–8 victory over Garry Kasparov in the three-day Clutch Chess: The Legends match in St Louis from 11 to 13 September.
“The event, which opens the island’s autumn programme, is eagerly awaited by enthusiasts of a game played by so many Capri residents,” ANSA wrote, adding that Capri Mayor Paolo Falco will personally make the ceremonial opening move.
