Burgas will welcome the international COP31 Bike Ride on 4 and 5 October as the cycling relay makes its way towards the UN Climate Change Conference COP31 in Antalya, Turkey. This year’s route covers more than 22,000 km across three continents and over 20 countries, the Municipality of Burgas said.
In Bulgaria, the relay follows two routes. One starts in Sofia and continues via Plovdiv to Burgas, while the main international group enters the country through Silistra and follows the Black Sea coast. The two groups will meet in Burgas on 4 October before setting off together for Turkey the following morning.
The COP Bike Ride was launched in 2024, when nearly 200 participants covered 6,500 km between Paris and Baku. Participation grew to more than 1,000 people a year later, while thousands of cyclists are expected to join different stages in 2026. This year’s riders will also take part in an attempt to set a world record for the largest number of participants in a cycling relay.
