Natural gas transmission capacity from Greece to Bulgaria has increased by around 30% this year to 93 gigawatt-hours per day, Bulgarian Energy Minister Iva Petrova said in an interview with Greek business publication Powergame.gr, published on Monday.
Petrova said the Vertical Gas Corridor was being strengthened, opening up new energy routes for southeastern Europe, BTA reported. The next step was to ensure that the corridor operated as a single, fully interconnected regional system rather than a series of separate national projects, she said.
Petrova stressed the importance of the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector and Greece’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure in diversifying supplies. These gave Bulgaria access to Azerbaijani gas via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline and to LNG imports through Greece, she said.
Further development of the Vertical Gas Corridor would allow gas supplies to reach Serbia, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine and Hungary, Petrova added.
