The International Ministerial Conference on Corridor 8 has opened in Sofia, focusing on progress made so far and opportunities to accelerate work on the project.
“Corridor 8 should be viewed as a single strategic connectivity project, rather than a collection of separate infrastructure sections. This is a project of strategic importance to us and has been a priority for many years, but it has not always been pursued with the level of activity that we need,” Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova said at the opening of the conference.
Corridor 8 links the Adriatic and Black Seas via Albania, the Republic of North Macedonia and Bulgaria, encompassing both road and rail connections.
The forum brings together representatives of the countries involved in Corridor 8, as well as other countries from the region. Participants also include European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, senior representatives of the European External Action Service and NATO, as well as representatives of the United States, the United Kingdom and Ukraine.
