Bulgaria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of the Republic of North Macedonia, Timcho Mucunski, on the sidelines of the International Ministerial Conference on Corridor VIII in Sofia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

Velislava Petrova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s support for the European perspective of the Republic of North Macedonia, based on the principle of merit. In this context, she requested information on the timeframe in which North Macedonia plans to fulfill the commitments set out in the 2022 European Consensus, which are necessary for the country to begin accession negotiations with the EU. Radio Bulgaria recalls that one of North Macedonia’s key commitments is to include Bulgarians in the country’s Constitution in order to guarantee their rights.

The two sides agreed to maintain open communication on issues of mutual interest.
