More than half of Bulgarians (55%) believe that school education does not adequately prepare young people for the labour market, a nationally representative survey by polling agency Trend has found. The results were presented at a forum organised by the National Association of Municipalities in the resort of Albena, BTA reported.
According to the survey, 38% of respondents rate the quality of education as rather poor, while 35% consider it rather good. Only 2% describe it as very good.
More than 50% of respondents identify poor discipline as one of the main problems, followed by a shortage of qualified teachers and insufficient individual attention to students. Improving discipline is a priority for 47% of respondents, while 33% call for greater emphasis on practical skills.
The survey was conducted between 10 and 16 September among 1,000 adults, and was commissioned by the National Association of Municipalities.
