The EU will support the initiative by Bulgaria and Romania to impose a moratorium on hostilities in the Black Sea and the use of drones, President Iliana Iotova said in Burgas ahead of the EU leaders’ summit in Brussels on October 15 and 16.

“This is an idea put forward by the French president several weeks ago. I think we are gaining more and more allies, and my prediction is that there will be a common EU decision”, President Iotova said.

“I held a telephone conversation with the President of Romania, and we agreed to include a special item on Black Sea security on the agenda of the EU summit. There will also be a consolidated text drafted by the two foreign ministries. It would be best to hold a meeting on Black Sea security involving representatives of all Black Sea countries.

The document will consist of two parts: the facts and threats to the safety of maritime navigation, and the assistance we could receive from the EU”, the head of state added, BTA reported.
