The Aviation Museum near Bulgaria's second-biggest city Plovdiv will mark 16 October - Bulgarian Aviation and Air Force Day - with a special programme. The commemorative date is associated with the first combat reconnaissance flight, carried out on 16 October 1912 during the Balkan War. The flight was made by Lieutenants Radul Milkov and Prodan Tarakchiev in an Albatros L.2 aircraft in the area of Edirne.
Visitors will be able to explore an exhibition tracing the development of Bulgarian aviation and step inside the cockpits of two aircraft: an Mi-24 helicopter and a MiG-21 fighter jet. Aviation enthusiasts will also have the opportunity to see the ASH-62IR engine in operation. It was used to power the An-2 aircraft.
The youngest visitors can take part in the educational game Pilot - Explorer, which will challenge them to discover fascinating details about the design of the aeroplanes and helicopters on display in the museum’s outdoor exhibition.
