A total of 64 scientists affiliated with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) have been ranked among the world’s top 2% of researchers in the latest edition of the Stanford ranking, which assesses scientists’ career-long impact and is compiled by Stanford University in the United States.
Twenty of these scientists are BAS academicians and corresponding members, while the remainder are professors at the Academy’s institutes. The latest Stanford ranking includes a total of 102 Bulgarian researchers, BAS announced.
The ranking is compiled annually based on an analysis of scientometric indicators for more than 12 million scientists whose publications are indexed in Scopus. It reflects the impact individual researchers have had on the advancement of science.
A separate ranking assesses scientific impact over the previous year. It includes another 10 BAS scientists and members who do not feature in the career-long ranking. This brings the total number of scientists affiliated with BAS included in the two rankings to 74.
