Bulgaria, Romania and Türkiye are to expand the scope of operations carried out by the Mine Countermeasures Naval Group in the Black Sea (MCM Black Sea). In addition to detecting and neutralising mines and drones, the three countries will also monitor the security of critical underwater infrastructure.

The announcement was made in Varna by Bulgarian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov.

He said the expanded mission would begin once the Turkish parliament ratified the relevant agreement. Bulgaria and Romania have already completed ratification.

The information was reported by Radio Bulgaria's correspondent in Varna, Daniela Stoynova.
