Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil to visit Mount Athos on first official visit

Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil will make his first official visit to Mount Athos in Greece from 21 to 24 October, the Bulgarian Patriarchate announced.

The visit comes at the invitation of the brotherhood of the Bulgarian Zograf Monastery of St George. The Patriarch will also visit other monasteries and meet representatives of the Holy Community, the highest governing body of Mount Athos.

Patriarch Daniil will lead an all-night vigil commemorating the 26 Martyrs of Zograf Monastery, who were burned to death by Latin forces in 1274 for their Orthodox faith.

He will also meet the monastery's monks and venerate sacred relics and other holy objects preserved at the historic Bulgarian monastery.
