Greek photographer Stratos Kalafatis will present his project Via Egnatia, the result of seven years of travelling along the 1,500-kilometre ancient road that once connected East and West, at a lecture in Sofia on 22 October.
Through his photographs, Kalafatis explores how the legacy of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires lives on in the Balkans today, focusing on the people who live and travel along the historic route.

Born in Kavala in 1966, Kalafatis studied photography in Philadelphia and has spent more than 30 years working on long-term projects. These include a five-year exploration of monastic life on Mount Athos. His work has been shown at international exhibitions and photography festivals.
The lecture will take place at Odeon Cinema, 1 Patriarch Evtimiy Boulevard, at 6 pm. Afterwards, at 8 pm, Kalafatis will sign copies of his books at Photosynthesis Gallery, 57 Vasil Levski Boulevard. Admission to both events is free.
