Bulgaria and Türkiye will step up joint bilateral and trilateral initiatives with Romania to ensure freedom of navigation in the Black Sea. This was agreed during a phone call between Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Recep Erdoğan voiced sympathy over the drone attacks on merchant vessels in Bulgaria’s exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea.
The two leaders also discussed issues on the bilateral agenda, including increasing the capacity of border crossing points and improving connectivity between the two countries, with financial support from the EU also in view.
Rumen Radev invited Recep Erdoğan to attend a high-level summit scheduled to take place in Sofia in early 2027 under the auspices of the European Commission, focusing on strengthening Europe’s connectivity with Central Asia.
