Bulgaria and Greece are launching 21 cross-border cooperation projects worth a total of €33.4 million under the EU-funded Interreg VI-A Greece–Bulgaria 2021–2027 programme, BGNES reported.
Greece's Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Nikos Papathanasis, signed the project agreements, which cover environmental protection, education, social inclusion, cultural heritage and sustainable tourism.
Six projects worth €9.7 million will focus on the green transition and circular economy, including sustainable management of natural resources. Another six, also worth €9.7 million, will support biodiversity conservation, green infrastructure and pollution reduction.
Three projects, with a combined budget of €4.2 million, aim to improve access to quality education and lifelong learning, while six others, worth €9.6 million, will focus on cultural heritage and sustainable tourism.
The projects will be implemented in the Bulgarian regions of Blagoevgrad, Smolyan, Kardzhali and Haskovo, and the Greek regional units of Thessaloniki, Serres, Drama, Kavala, Thasos, Xanthi, Rhodope and Evros.
A total of 87 organisations will take part, including 48 from Greece and 39 from Bulgaria.
