President Iliana Iotova and her running mate Kiril Valchev retain their lead ahead of the 25 October presidential election, but their support has fallen by a statistically significant margin, according to a poll funded by Alpha Research itself.
The poll put their support at 41.1% among those certain to vote. Andrey Gyurov and his running mate Georgi Kandev have gained ground, with 28.3%, as have Kostadin Kostadinov and Petar Volgin, with 12.8%.
The polling agency expects turnout of around 40%, or 2.6–2.7 million people, slightly higher than at the start of the campaign.
Asked about the government’s response to drone attacks in the Black Sea, 19% of respondents said it had been entirely appropriate. Another 37% said the government should have sought more active assistance from the European Union and NATO, while 24% said it should have maintained complete neutrality.
