In a letter of condolence to Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil condemned the attack on the Orthodox Church of St George in Hamoud, in Jordan’s Karak Governorate, which left nine people dead and more than 40 injured. The head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church expressed his solidarity with the victims and their families, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church said, as reported by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).
The attack took place during a funeral service attended by relatives of a deceased member of the Christian minority.
“What makes this incident particularly tragic is that people who had gathered to bid farewell to a loved one in prayer and with the hope of resurrection themselves became victims of brutal violence,” Patriarch Daniil said.
He also expressed support for the efforts of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem to preserve the Christian presence in the Holy Land and offered prayers for peace in Jordan and throughout the Middle East.
