“It’s not time to pat ourselves on the back. Next week, Bulgaria will go to the polls again. I believe Bulgaria needs an active president who can explain decisions and unite Bulgarian citizens rather than divide them”, presidential candidate Andrey Gyurov told journalists at his campaign headquarters, BGNES reported.
He said the trust placed in the Gyurov-Kandev ticket obliges them to continue “the fight for a new direction for Bulgaria.”
“I invite Ms Iotova to an open, honest and civilised debate on how we will exercise our powers and how we will act when Bulgaria faces a difficult choice”, Andrey Gyurov said.
He stressed that the ticket would not seek support from party headquarters, but exclusively from citizens.
Meanwhile, Alexandrina Pendatchanska, co-chair of the initiative committee that nominated Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kandev, told Bulgarian National Television: “I think the result speaks for itself. At the beginning of the campaign, the gap between Iliana Iotova and Andrey Gyurov was more than 20 percentage points. Today, we are talking about 3-4 points. Andrey Gyurov has not yet reached his ceiling. I believe his support will grow over the coming week.”
She added that support should be sought from everyone living in Bulgaria who does not want the country to be governed by “the ghosts of the past, the ghosts of communism.”
