Italian scholar explores Sofia through Georgi Gospodinov's novels

Italian Bulgarian studies scholar Giorgia Spadoni will present her book In Sofia with Georgi Gospodinov on 27 October at 7 pm at the Union of Architects in Sofia, publisher Janet 45 has announced.

The book was written for an Italian series exploring cities around the world through the works of well-known writers. Sofia, seen through the writing of Georgi Gospodinov, joins New York through the works of Paul Auster, Tokyo through those of Haruki Murakami and Istanbul through those of Orhan Pamuk.

The publisher says the book will appeal to both foreign visitors and Bulgarian readers. It explores the relationship between Sofia and literature, tracing the city's lesser-known and imagined routes through Gospodinov's works, from Natural Novel and The Physics of Sorrow to Time Shelter and The Gardener and Death, BTA reports.
