Bulgaria has been removed from the “grey list” of countries subject to increased monitoring for money laundering, a decision that restores the country’s international standing and opens up new opportunities for the Bulgarian economy, businesses and citizens. Prime Minister Rumen Radev announced this in a statement to the Bulgarian public after being informed by Justice Minister Nayden Nikolov of the decision taken earlier today at a plenary meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in Paris.
The government press service said that securing Bulgaria’s removal from the “grey list” had been set as a key priority in the government’s programme.
Bulgaria received an official warning in 2021 and was placed on the list in 2023 because of strategic deficiencies in its efforts to combat money laundering and corruption over a ten-year period.
Removal from the “grey list” is expected to put an end to the serious difficulties encountered when conducting financial transactions with foreign countries.
