Bulgaria is introducing emergency shipping requirements in its Black Sea territorial waters, Bulgarian National Television reported. Two hours before entering Bulgarian territorial waters, ship captains will be required to notify the maritime authorities of their vessel’s location and route, the cargo they are carrying, the number of people on board, fuel supplies and any potential technical malfunctions.

The new requirements come amid rising tensions over shipping in the Black Sea. In recent weeks, drone attacks have sunk several vessels off the coasts of Bulgaria and Romania, leaving dozens of sailors dead or injured.
