Livestock farmers briefly block main Sofia–Varna road in protest

Livestock farmers briefly blocked the main road between Sofia and Varna near Sevlievo, calling for a fairer distribution of emergency aid and the same eligibility criteria for all farmers.

“We want the same criteria to apply to goats and buffaloes as to cattle and sheep. We don’t want farmers to be treated differently depending on where they farm, either. The same rules should apply to everyone,” protest organiser Tsvetoslava Guteva told the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

Guteva said livestock farmers in the area were still waiting for compensation for the 2025 drought. Some fields yielded almost nothing, forcing farmers to buy extra feed for their animals.
