The president of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU), Borislav Mihailov, has resigned. The move follows riots by football fans outside the Vasil Levski National Stadium during the Bulgaria-Hungary match on 16 November.
"We would have done more if we had not turned into a blow-off valve (for all the pressure - ed.) I am resigning, I will not answer any questions. No club asked for my resignation, it was the clubs who elected me," Mihailov told the media. In a déjà-vu move, Mihail Kasabov has once again stepped in to temporarily replace Borislav Mihailov following his resignation. This came after another candidate - Emil Kostadinov - refused to replace Mihailov.
On 6 December, the BFU leadership will set a date for a congress to elect a new president. During the meeting of the football chiefs, there was increased police security outside the National Football Base building in Boyana.
