The police have stopped all vehicles heading towards Kulata, which is near the Greek border, after Greek farmers blocked the road just before Promachon as part of a strike. It is not yet clear how long the disruption will last.
Keti Trencheva, BNR's correspondent reporting from the scene, said that heavy goods vehicles are waiting on the hard shoulder of the Struma motorway, while most passenger cars are turning back.
Officers from the border police near the checkpoint are informing travellers that traffic on the Greek side is blocked by striking farmers using tractors. Some heavy machinery has reached the toll booths. Dozens of trucks remain stranded on Bulgarian territory.
