“Tonight, the people got ahead of Parliament and cast a vote of no confidence in the government. An unprecedented number of Bulgarians of all ages and political affiliation filled the squares of Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas… across Bulgaria and Europe”, President Rumen Radev wrote last night on his Facebook page regarding the large-scale protest under the slogan “Resignation! Peevski and Borissov Out of Power!”, which was held on the eve of the vote of no confidence against the government.
According to Bulgaria’s head of state, the protest gave rise to a broad anti-mafia popular consensus, which is more important than all differences, than all attempts to appropriate hope.
“Dear members of parliament,
Tomorrow (Thursday) you will choose between the dignity of a free vote and the
shame of dependencies. Between the voice of the people and the fear of the
mafia. Hear the squares! It’s your move! My choice is clear”, President Radev
addressed the lawmakers.
