The Bulgarian research vessel “Sts. Cyril and Methodius” has reached the shores of Livingston Island in the area of the Bulgarian Antarctic base “St. Kliment Ohridski,” wrote Flotilla Admiral Boyan Mednikarov, professor at the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, on his Facebook profile, BTA reported.

“With this, the active phase of supporting the 34th Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition has begun,” Mednikarov noted.

Research ship "Sts. Cyril and Methodius" departs for Antarctica

A few days ago, the ship set sail from the Chilean port of Punta Arenas. There, the first group of scientists and logistics personnel from the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute boarded the vessel, along with foreign scientists from Romania, Montenegro, the United Arab Emirates, and Ecuador, who are part of the 34th Bulgarian Antarctic expedition to the icy continent of Antarctica.
