International Monetary Fund Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, described Bulgaria’s accession to the eurozone as an important milestone that feels deeply personal.

“I remember the rough transition from communism, the hyperinflation that wiped out my mother’s savings, and the crises we weathered together,” Kristalina Georgieva wrote on her LinkedIn and Facebook profiles. She also points out that this journey required courage, reforms, and faith in European values.

“Now, Bulgaria will not only reap economic benefits but also help shape Europe’s future,” the IMF managing director wrote. According to her, legal transparency, consistent policies and public trust are important for any nation seeking stability in a changing world.
