The one-month period of dual currency circulation in Bulgaria will remain unchanged, as stipulated in the Law on the Introduction of the Euro. People will be able to make purchases in either levs or euros only in January, the Ministry of Finance said in an official statement following rumors of a possible extension of this period.

The Ministry of Finance points out that in all countries that have adopted the euro as their official currency, the longest period of dual circulation has been one month. Some countries—Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovakia, and Slovenia—have even opted for a shorter period of just two weeks.

The euro has been the official currency in Bulgaria since January 1, 2026.
