Agriculture accounts for only 6% within the EU-South America free trade agreement. What livestock farmers fear the most – beef – represents about 1.2%, MEP Ilia Lazarov said for BNR regarding the partnership agreement between the EU and Mercosur (EMPA), which will be officially signed on January 17.

“Ukraine produces 5–6 times more grain than South America”, Ilia Lazarov added, noting that the compensation measures planned for European farmers are sufficient.

“We will take part in the Europe-wide agricultural protest on January 20 in Strasbourg against the signing of the EU-Mercosur trade deal”, Ilia Prodanov, Chairman of the National Grain Producers Association and of the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber, told BNR.
