President Rumen Radev handed the second exploratory mandate to form a government to the second-largest parliamentary group, “We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB).” On behalf of the coalition, Nadezhda Yordanova, Assen Vassilev and Yordan Ivanov immediately returned the mandate to the head of state unfulfilled.
“There is no possibility of forming a reformist majority in this National Assembly. The central issue for society and politicians is to ensure a transparent electoral process”, said Nadezhda Yordanova. “We will not allow the introduction of scanning devices and will oppose any attempts to undermine citizens’ demand for fair elections”, added Nadezhda Yordanova.
Unsurprisingly, GERB-SDS returns mandate for forming cabinet to the president
“With this refusal, the options are greatly limited. The question is not when the elections will take place. I expect the party leaders to show political responsibility and stop telling me when to schedule the elections”, Rumen Radev said and called for fair elections.
Starting January 14, President Radev has seven days to hand the third government-forming mandate to a parliamentary group of his choice.
