The investment in the new units 7 and 8 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (with AP1000 reactors by Westinghouse) is an investment in the future. This will be a sustainable project that will create thousands of jobs, ensuring high incomes and, above all, security for the region and the country, the Executive Director of Kozloduy NPP – New Builds Petyo Ivanov told journalists.

The project is expected to operate for 60 years, with an option for an additional 20 years and a further extension of another 20 years, which in the best-case scenario means a lifespan of 100 years for Units 7 and 8, he added, as quoted by BTA.

Among the most important questions that need to be answered is what the exact cost of the project will be. The question is what is included in the price and whether all risks have been assessed, Petyo Ivanov explained. Speaking to Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), he said that the goal for 2026 “is to have the total cost of the project.” “We launched the project in 2024, but we are now working in a more focused manner and have started talks with credit agencies and applying for financing. Both the company and the Bulgarian public need to gain a clear understanding of the project’s overall cost”, said Petyo Ivanov.
