Nominations for the “Bulgarian Woman of the Year 2025 – Saint Zlata of Meglen” are now open, the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad announced at a ceremony in the Winter Garden of the Ethnographic Museum in Sofia.
Saint Zlata of Meglen was named the heavenly patron of Bulgarian women abroad in 2009, following a proposal by historian Prof. Plamen Pavlov. The award, established by the agency under Rayna Mandjukova, honours the saint. The nomination process opens each year on 21 January.
Eligible candidates are Bulgarian women living abroad who have actively contributed to preserving the national identity and cultural heritage of Bulgarian communities worldwide.
