“The limitation to 20 polling stations in consular and diplomatic missions in countries outside the European Union is disproportionate, unjustified, and violates the spirit of the Constitution. We call on President Iliana Iotova to impose a veto.” This was stated by Nadezhda Yordanova, (PP–DB), speaking to reporters in the corridors of parliament.
Déjà vu: Fewer polling stations and more obstacles for Bulgarians voting abroad
Meanwhile, MPs extended their working hours until the adoption of the amendments to the Electoral Code, some of which were referenced by the MP.
According to Nadezhda Yordanova, the changes will hinder Bulgarian citizens outside the EU from exercising their right to vote. In her words, this runs counter to the Constitution, which stipulates that Bulgarians have equal and universal suffrage.
Yordan Ivanov of PP-DB commented that Vazrazhdane party (at whose initiative the restriction on polling stations was introduced – ed. note) are carrying out a political order and providing services to GERB and MRF-New Beginning parties.
