PP-DB call for the resignation of National Security chief over "Petrohan case"

PP-DB coalition have called for the immediate resignation of Denyo Denev as acting Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS). This was stated at a briefing in Parliament by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly from the parliamentary group of “We Continue the Change” – “Democratic Bulgaria,” Atanas Atanasov.

According to Atanasov, the reason for the requested resignation is that during a parliamentary hearing on the “Petrohan” case, Denev failed to answer a question about whether there were individuals in the non-governmental organization “National Agency for Control of Protected Areas,” linked to the case, who had worked for DANS, BNR Horizont reported.

According to PP-DB, there is information about at least two individuals who had interactions with DANS and were most likely recruited, and according to information from the Ministry of Interior, the group had been monitored for over 12 months with undercover agents embedded in it, representatives of PP-DB coalition stated.

The coalition also recalled Denev’s role in the removal of machine voting before the first round of the 2023 local elections, which subsequently led to 500,000 invalid ballots.
