Three suicides at Petrohan and two murders and one suicide below Okolochitsa peak - these are the leading theories investigators are working on following the collected evidence and forensic examinations related to the tragedy in the Balkan Mountains that unfolded at the beginning of this month. This became clear during a joint briefing between the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Interior.
Authorities investigate mass murder or series of suicides involving six victims
Camera footage shows the presence of a hierarchy within the group that inhabited the lodge, with Ivaylo Kalushev being the undisputed leader. It was clarified that the three deceased men at the Petrohan hut were discovered by their associate Deyan Ivanov, who has given testimony and is currently abroad.
Donations to the non-governmental organization “National Agency for Control of Protected Areas,” which united the lodge’s residents, are being examined, and the motives behind them will be clarified. According to the Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor’s Office, there is currently no evidence that members of the group were agents or unofficial collaborators of the State Agency for National Security (DANS), as had been reported in the media.
The connections between members of the group and public officials and politicians will also be investigated.
