Bulgaria continues to stand with Ukraine and to support its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. This is stated in a position by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the fourth year since the start of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

“Today… we pay tribute to the immense sacrifice of the Ukrainian people in their brave self-defense and noble struggle to protect not only their freedom and human dignity but also the sovereign right of every nation to choose its own future… History teaches us that every war ultimately ends with diplomacy, and today we need diplomacy more than ever. We welcome the ongoing strong commitment of the United States to reach an agreed solution to end the aggression,” the MFA statement reads.

“I do not consider these to be special operations; it is a war raging for four years, at the cost of thousands of lives on both sides. I strongly believe that there will be progress in peace negotiations, a ceasefire, a return to normalcy, with the participation of all EU countries, including our own, in the restoration of Ukraine,” Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova told journalists.
