Malena Zamfirova, Bulgaria’s top snowboarder, received strong support from participants in the parallel slalom at the Alpine Snowboard World Cup in Špindlerův Mlýn, Czech Republic.

After the finals, leading competitors from around the world congratulated Zamfirova in front of the cameras, with some saying they missed her. The competition was held under the slogan “Ride for Malena”.

Malena’s brother Tervel, Radoslav Yankov, Alexander Krasnyak and the entire Bulgarian team wore black stripes on their faces similar to those Zamfirova rides with. Michelle Dekker of the Netherlands, who finished third in today’s women’s competition, also wore black stripes in support of Zamfirova.

On 3 March, 16-year-old Zamfirova suffered serious injuries after being struck by a skier on the slopes of a Czech resort, where she had been preparing for the World Cup. She is currently being treated in hospital in Austria.
