Former Bulgarian president Rumen Radev will lead Progressive Bulgaria’s candidate lists in Burgas and Sofia’s 25th multi-member constituency, the party announced, according to journalist Maria Fileva. The lists also include prominent athletes, former members of Radev’s presidential team, and former ministers from his caretaker governments.

President Radev stepped down in January in order to take part in the early elections.

The party’s list in Plovdiv will be headed by Vladimir Nikolov, the long-standing captain of Bulgaria’s national volleyball team. The list in Lovech will be led by Olympic karate champion Ivet Goranova, the list in Smolyan by world marathon swimming champion Petar Stoychev, and the list in Yambol by acrobat Encho Keryazov.

Ex-caretaker prime minister Galab Donev, who also served as chief of staff to President Radev, will lead the list in Pazardzhik. Dimitar Stoyanov, Radev’s former secretary for security and defence, as well as a former defence minister, will head the party’s list in Haskovo.
