On April 19, Bulgarian citizens at home and abroad are electing the 240-member Bulgarian parliament.

Voting in Bulgaria is officially mandatory and is carried out in person as a civic duty. In practice, however, there are no active sanctions for those who do not vote.

The right to vote can be exercised by any Bulgarian citizen aged 18 or over who is not under legal guardianship and is not serving a prison sentence. People with permanent resident status in Bulgaria who are not Bulgarian citizens do not have the right to vote in parliamentary elections.

Polling stations on election day are open until 8:00 p.m.
