The election day in Taraclia began without issues, the chair of the sectional election commission in the town, Diana Borimechkova, told BTA. “Everything is normal so far, and we hope it remains so throughout the day. We expect the highest voter turnout between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., when people usually go out for their Sunday walk,” she said.
For Bulgaria’s parliamentary elections, a total of 10 polling stations have been opened in Moldova - in Chișinău, Taraclia, Varnitsa, Vulcănești, Cairaclia, Cahul, Comrat, Corten, Tvardița and Ceadîr-Lunga.
According to the latest 2024 census, the population of the republic is just over 2.4 million people, with 1.6% identifying as Bulgarians, according to official Moldovan data.
Bulgarian communities also live in other areas of Moldova, such as Bender, Tiraspol, and the village of Parkany in the separatist region of Transnistria, but voting is not taking place there due to the Russian occupation.
