Kiril Milov won Bulgaria’s first title at the European Wrestling Championships in Tirana. He defeated Alex Szőke (Hungary) 3:1 in the final bout of the Greco-Roman 97 kg category.
This is Bulgaria’s first gold medal of the tournament. Earlier, Olympic champion Semen Novikov won a silver medal in the 87 kg category, while Stefan Grigorov earned bronze in the 55 kg category.
Three-time European champion Kiril Milov started the tournament strongly, defeating Poland’s Gerard Kurniczak 9:0 in his opening match. On his way to the title, he defeated Kiryl Maskevich of Belarus, Lucas Lazogianis of Germany, and Russia’s Artur Sargsian.
